Book Review: Neferet's Curse (House of Night Novellas, #3) by P. C. & Kristin Cast

Read on September 29, 2014
With more than 12 million books in print, rights sold in almost 40 countries, and over two years on the New York Times bestseller list, the House of Night series is an international publishing sensation. Now, the excitement continues as the Cast mother-daughter duo shares the back stories of a few of the House of Night's most important – and mysterious – characters. In the third House of Night novella, the secret history we've all been waiting for is finally revealed...  Neferet, the Tulsa House of Night's darkly seductive High Priestess, wasn't always a powerful vampyre, but she has always been beautiful. Raised in turn-of-the-century Chicago in a motherless home, her beauty makes her the prey of unwanted attention and abuse, leaving her with scars that will never heal – and a Darkness that will eventually need to find its way out. But when she is Marked and gains strength, both physical and magickal, she turns her anger into power and looks for a way to regain what was stolen from her. From victim to High Priestess, beautiful young woman to powerful seductress, Neferet's journey begins...

I really loved this! Strangely, reading about Neferet was very interesting!!!

I absolutely loved everything about it! It perfectly portrayed how the past is accountable for her actions now and even the way she thinks! It was quite heartbreaking at times though! Life was extremely cruel to her!

Overall, it was so good! It portrayed so much about the lifestyle in 1893 too, so more plus points!

Book Review: Destined (House of Night, #9) by P. C. & Kristin Cast

Read from September 25 to 28, 2014
In Destined, the forces of Light and Dark collide as their epic struggle focuses on Tulsa’s House of Night. Zoey is home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side – and preparing to face off against Neferet. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx’s gift of a human form, he and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together – if Rephaim can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father’s shadow. But is Zoey really safe? Does she truly know those who are closest to her? And will love win when it is tested by the very soul of Darkness?
OMG!!! This was amazing!!! Absolutely amazing!!!

I really loved how this book went on with hardly any boy trouble as bad as in the former books. It was all Stark and Zoey! And that was perfect for me! In the midst of a "shit pot" of trouble, of course, but I still loved it all the same!

Stevie Rae and Rephaim were perfect too! I loved Rephaim's POVs 'cause he was so cute and sweet!!! And their relationship is, if not the best, one of the best in the series!

Neferet going bat-shit crazy was uber-awesome to read about 'cause she's one hell of a villain! That woman is pure evil!

The one reason this book didn't get 5 stars is the whole Heath/Aurox thing. WTH is the dead boy doing back in this story? I would have been more than content without Heath being inputted into the story. I really don't see a very good reason why he should be here :(

Also, another con was there wasn't enough Zoey/Stark! I need more of them! Now!

Anyway, overall this book deserves its 4 stars! Really good, so awesome!

Book Review: Awakened (House of Night, #8) by P. C. & Kristin Cast

Read from September 22 to 25, 2014
Exonerated by the Vampyre High Council and returned to her position of High Priestess at Tulsa's House of Night, Neferet has sworn vengeance on Zoey. Dominion over Kalona is only one of the weapons she plans to use against Z. But Zoey has found sanctuary on the Isle of Skye and is being groomed by Queen Sgiach to take over for her there. Being Queen would be cool, wouldn't it? Why should she return to Tulsa? After losing her human consort, Heath, she will never be the same--and her relationship with her super-hot-warrior, Stark, may never be the same either...  And what about Stevie Rae and Rephaim? The Raven Mocker refuses to be used against Stevie Rae, but what choice does he have when no one in the entire world, including Zoey, would be okay with their relationship? Does he betray his father or his heart?  In the pulse-pounding eighth House of Night Novel by PC Cast and Kristin Cast, how far will the bonds of friendship stretch and how strong are the ties that bind one girl's heart?
My mind was completely dead once I was done reading this book! Completely. Dead.

Awakened started out pretty slow and was totally the calm before the storm kinda thing, which is very much routine for this series. I sort of revelled in it 'cause the storm was pretty intense in the before book, so I was okay with how it started, but not completely satisfied. There was a sort of lifelessness in the beginning that wasn't very attractive. That is the soul reason why I rated this one star less.

But then, halfway through things started picking up and things pretty much got intense! Someone important died (SPOILER!!!) and shit just got real! And one thing that got drilled into my mind is that Neferet is one crazy-ass bitch. Excuse my French...

Seriously though, I actually started warming up to Kalona, and what happened to Rephaim was wonderful, and WTF is wrong with Dragon, but Neferet gets the award for highlight of the book! This book just opened up her craziness to the public, especially with all those POVs of hers. Very disturbing, by the way!

Anyway, this book was seriously good, especially the latter half. There was a lot going on, stuff happened, shit got real, but I really loved it! :)

Book Review: Overbite (Insatiable, #2) by Meg Cabot

Read from September 16 to 21, 2014
Meena Harper has bitten off more than she can chew . . .Meena has a special gift, but only now does anyone appreciate it. Her ability to predict how everyone she meets will die has impressed the Palatine Guard—a powerful secret demon-hunting unit of the Vatican—and they’ve hired her to work at their new branch in Lower Manhattan. Sure, Meena’s ex-boyfriend was Lucien Antonescu, son of Dracula. But that was before he (and their relationship) went up in flames, and now she’s sworn off vampires for good—even though she firmly believes that just because they’ve lost their souls, it doesn’t mean they can’t love.Convincing her new partner, über-demon-hunter Alaric Wulf, that vampires can be redeemed won’t be easy . . . especially when a deadly new threat arises, endangering not only the Palatine, but Meena’s friends and family as well. As she unravels the truth, Meena will find her loyalties tested, her true feelings laid bare . . . and temptations she never even imagined before nearly impossible to resist.
This was a bit below my expectations too but not as bad as Awaken!

I loved the story overall! There were some major plot twists, betrayals, revelations, and drama.

I loved Lucien throughout! His mood changes were upsetting and sometimes very absurd, but I still loved him! After Insatiable nothing can change that!

Also, Meena was awesome as always! I loved the action Meena and Jon got into, and those 2 together was hilarious and awesome!

And then Alaric! Cabot made me love him more in this than in Insatiable. He was seriously awesome in this book!

Overall, I loved Cabot's witty, sarcastic prose! The book was alive in a sense because of her awesome writing! But there were cons too. I really didn't like how she seemed to change preferences between Lucien and Alaric. It's like she suddenly changed her mind on who she wanted Meena to end up with! That really pissed me off!

That ending! Really blew my mind!!! Honestly, Insatiable had a better ending, but this one's ending was pretty good too! One word to describe that ending is 'heartbreaking'. You'll have to read to find out though ;)

Book Review: Awaken (Abandon, #3) by Meg Cabot

Read from September 15 to 16, 2014
Death has her in his clutches. She doesn't want him to let her go. Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera knew by accepting the love of John Hayden, she'd be forced to live forever in the one pace she's always dreaded most: the Underworld. The sacrifice seemed worth it, though, because it meant she could be with the boy she loves. But now her happiness—and safety—are threatens, all because of the Furies have discovered that John has broken one of their strictest rules: Never revive a human soul.If the balance between life and death isn't fixed, both the Underworld and Pierce's home back on earth will be wiped away. But there's only one way to restore order. Someone has to die.
Well, Awaken didn't live up to my expectations!

That beginning was way too fast! Everything happened too abruptly, like Cabot dived into the story without so much as a thought to it. I didn't like that at all!

Also, the Thanatos story-line was way too weird. It just dropped out of nowhere! One second it was there and then the next second it wasn't! Way too sudden!

I loved badass Pierce though! Actually, I loved the latter half of the book! There was so much action! And Alex, Kayla, Frank, Mr. Liu, Henry and all the other characters were awesome!

Overall though, I'm a bit disappointed. I had higher expectations. This series deserves a better ending!

Book Review: A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R. R. Martin

Read from August 24 to September 15, 2014
Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom's protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens. Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counter-plots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.
Wow! I can't believe I took so long to finish reading this book!

Nevertheless, this was amazing! I absolutely love Martin's world! The Seven Kingdoms are absolutely spellbinding!

I absolutely love the Starks!!! My favourite Starks were Robb, Jon and Eddard! I didn't like Sansa's character that much, because of her very blindness, but I'm sensed a change coming near the ending, so I'm excited to see how she's gonna change! Throughout the story I was totally siding with the Starks, and at the same, found the other characters every interesting too!

Actually, everyone was interesting in this story! Every character has been given a profile and a history that is hard to ignore! Sure, the Lannisters were sort of the bad guys, but I loved them! That family is a whole load of badassery!

I was absolutely enthralled by the story from the very beginning and it was interesting throughout! Loved it!

Book Review: Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins

Read from August 23 to 24, 2014
Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. Distric 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding. It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Captiol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans - except Katniss. The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this,s he must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay - no matter what the personal cost.
This left me mindblown!!!

I'll admit that the beginning was frustrating and boring because I think Collins made Katniss a bit too handicapped after the rebels saved her. I can't believe she would just deteriorate like that; she would if Peeta was dead, but he was just captured, not dead. That's the only reason this got 4 stars instead of 5.

I absolutely loved the rest of the story! It was so realistic, painfully so. And there's was so much pain and struggling and bits of happiness from here and there. By the end of the story, I was left sort of brain dead! I was so caught up in the story that the emotions overwhelmed me!

And that ending was marvelous!!! It broke my heart so bad, but I still loved it! I loved how Katniss just pulled herself back together! Also, I was so sad to see so many amazing characters die! That was so heartbreaking!

I think the reason why some people might not have liked this is because there's was so much realism in the story. The deaths were sudden and there seemed to be not enough grief going around, but that's how it would be in the midst of a war, right? So, really, this story was amazing!

I loved this series! I'm so glad I read all 3 books in a row! It built up so many feels but the ending was amazing! Loved this series throughout!

Book Review: Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins

Read from August 19 to 23, 2014
Sparks are igniting.Flames are spreading. And the Capitol wants revenge.Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying. In Catching Fire, the second novel in the Hunger Games trilogy, Suzanne Collins continues the story of Katniss Everdeen, testing her more than ever before...and surprising readers at every turn.

OMG!!! I loved this so much!!! I loved how everything just keeps going and how the power play is depicted so explicitly! Amazing writing throughout!

I really loved the new characters this sequel brought in! I loved the rest of the Victors, especially Finnick and Johanna! They were all pretty amazing characters!

I loved how deep Everlark has gotten! I'm just soooo Team Peeta! He so deserves Katniss and they're just so perfect for each other! Gale never hits the right vibe with me! I'm never inclined to think that maybe he should end up with Katniss. Never. He's more of the freedom fighter image than a lover.

And I love how Katniss is! I love how she just fights through and perseveres on! I so need more of the Girl on Fire!

And that ending was phenomenal! I loved how Katniss's love towards Peeta was portrayed in that last chapter! I'm so glad that Finnick's alright, but I'm so hoping that Johanna and Peeta are OK!

Can't wait to move on to Book 3!!!
