Read from February 14 to 18, 2015
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.
Reading Divergent was a lot like when I read The Hunger Games trilogy. It wasn't as good as I was lead to believe it was but I'm just loving the kickass female protagonist! LOL!
Divergent wasn't as "amazing" as I was told it would be, but still it was pretty good. I wasn't as invested in the characters as I am when I read 5-star rated books, but I wasn't totally disconnected. I was still concerned about Tris and Four and the rest of her friends, so the tragic deaths that happened were pretty sad.
I actually liked the characters and I felt that Abnegation Tris was a lot like me when I was attending school! LOL! Tris getting initiated into Dauntless was like me graduating from school! So, yeah, Tris was a very relatable character!
Also, I really liked the Divergent universe! It was very dystopian and that appealed to me a lot! My favourite faction has got to be Dauntless cause I just love the whole jumping off trains and zip lining down buildings thing! This book was fun to read cause of those Dauntless scenes!
I also liked how the primary focus of the story was about Tris getting initiated into Dauntless and that Divergence wasn't the biggest concern in the story. It nicely shifted Tris into this good vs. bad situation that is gonna hang over the rest of the series.
Overall, Divergent was a pretty good book but I expected it to be better. I have an inkling that if I'd read this when I was younger I would have enjoyed it more. Reading YA when I'm in that stage where I'm shifting into NA is pretty confusing.
